I've heard it said that people usually only speak up when they really love something or really hate something. I don't know if that's true, but it's been a long time since I have written a review.

But I hated this book so much that I am compelled to write.

The book is told from multiple perspectives: a married woman pining for her first love, a convict who is the first love, and a police officer. The married woman has a truly odd gray-haired mentor, who I suppose was supposed to provide the spiritual insights in the book. She creeped me out! The first love is in prison for killing children in a car accident and the book centers around him coming back to town.

For 250 pages, the book seems to be about this reconciliation. (Among other weird things: like a missing man, the absent husband) Then, it TOTALLY JUMPS THE SHARK and becomes a story about a drug ring. Umm, what? Oh, and THEN there is the "twist" that reminds me of Shutter Island (but not as well done).

Even though this is "Christian fiction", I learned NOTHING about God. This book is complete drivel.
