This is historical fiction at its best. The book is about true events in the life of heroine, Carrie McGavock, of Carnton Plantation in Franklin Tennessee, which was taken over for a field hospital during the civil war battles fought there in 1894. Carrie Mcgavock first tended the dying and then buried over 1500 of the unclaimed bodies of soldiers who died there. She kept a book with the names of the dead, had tombstones made for them and maintained the cemetary for the rest of her life. It is now a National Cemetary - the only private one in the country. This book is totally engrossing and includes photos. I recommend it highly.
