On the whole, the attraction between shy, reserved Anne and wealthy businessman Nicholas Thayer keeps this story going. Convinced by Nick to pose as his mistress solely to help get backing for her 'real' love's art gallery, Anne gradually learns that passion is not to be avoided at all costs, despite the trauma of a childhood spent in a commune with her free-loving parents. While the book kept my interest, I was uncomfortable with the depth of Nick's obsession with his brother's sexpot wife and felt that it continued much too late in the story, no matter how explained in the end.
