Kathryn Lasky presents a credible portrait of Marie Antoinette as a girl struggling to hold onto her own, unique identity in a world of royal duty and rigid etiquette. I wished the book had shown more of Antoinette's inner feelings as she left her native Austria forever to become a French princess. However, the novel provided a good introduction to the tragic queen's life.
