This is a new author for me and I was delighted with the book. Her writing style is very similar to Maeve Binchy who I really enjoy. Daisy Sheridan is growing up in Newcastle where the Irish are treated horribly (this takes place in the 30's, I think). Daisy is determined to get out of the Irish ghetto and a devastating event pushes her sooner than she has planned. From that one event, she enlists in the WAAF and her "new" life begins. She re-invents herself to a hard-hearted girl/woman. I couldn't put the book down and I laughed and cried. Very good read.
