I would say historical fiction. The author went to a lot of work getting historical picutres of 1930's circuses and placing them throughout the book. The phrase," I think I will run away and join the circus.' actually comes true here. Warm witty, moving back and forth between the historical event- the circus trains of the 30's in the USA to a wheelchair in a nursing home for a former Vetrinarian who looks back on his fantasy life on the circus train and the real life. - then one the old geezer in the chair finds he does have the guts to run away and .....
