Another great Nevada Barr murder mystery. Anna Pigeon goes undercover in Yosemite National Park to try to help find/track down four hikers who have gone missing. As Anna works as a waitress in her undercover persona, she is able to pick up enough tidbits here and there to lead her out on a solo hike, which only leads to trouble for her. Using her backwoods skills and determination, she manages to find out what's really going on and stay alive...just barely. There are plenty of twists and turns throughout to keep the reader very interested and continuely guessing...up to the very end. Anna is a strong, independant hero who is in her late 40s, early 50s, and a breath of fresh air to the stale young, always pretty, and usually blond and not-too-bright heros other authers use. I enjoy reading about her adventures, as well as the various national parks she visits. Nevada Barr doesn't goop up her storylines with unnecessary romance, adds just enough action and realism to make the reader believe, and usually surprises the reader up to the very end. Highly recommend.
