Helpful Score: 4
There's a reason hardcore SK fans are giving this book only 3 stars.... but like me, you will probably read it & hope the reviewers are wrong. SK CAN write well : Acheron and all the preceeding DH books prove that. But after reading her last 2 books I gotta wonder what's happening. I don't mind the storyline change (it needed a good shaking up) I do mind the poor quality of writing.
This book was ok. Not great, not wonderful just ok. I was looking forward to a new begining in the DH series after Acheron's story and after reading One Silent Night, which I loved, because it was a great Arc book and claimed to be nothing else. I gave that book GREAT reviews.
This book well, it felt like it was rushed. The 'love' story was barely there and happened waaaay to quickly it was almost comical and lacked substance or reason and sort of seemed as if it was an after thought. Not much depth in this book. Quite frankly, it should have been longer, more developed and should not have ended so abruptly. I hate books that have cliff hangers. Books should be written as stand-alones. This book almost feels like it was written for an evening TV series. (with cliff hangers)
On the slight upside: lots and lots of new characters. Jaden, Jared, Nike, Noir, a crazy insane bunch of rad new DH and other cool things happen to the Skoti and Oneroi to shake up the status quo. Several other characters from past books make very breif appearances: Leta& Adian, Zarek, M'Adoc, Stryker & his lovley wife. And of course Acheron & Nick.
Still, as fair warning: This book will leave you wanting. Wanting more depth, more descriptions, more romance, more detail, more story. less names, less new characters and less rediculous happenings. The whole 'heart' thing was just stupid. When you read it you will understand.
I feel like my money was wasted. More so, I feel I was cheated out of my money and tricked into buying a SK book- thinking I was getting quality instead I got an empty shell.
I really hope SK gets back to writing decent books: good storylines and more depth & feeling to her characters. I want real stories not Manga, not cheap throwaway romance books. This one isn't going to be re-read by me. Its going straight to my PBS bookshelf.
