Serial killer Melvin Royal has escaped from prison. Melvin's former wife, Gwen Proctor, along with their kids, have been trying to stay a few steps ahead of Melvin and his followers who call themselves Absalom. Gwen realizes she'll never have peace until Melvin and Absalom are stopped. Leaving her kids with the only people she can trust, Gwen and Sam Cade, the brother of one of Melvin's victims, work to draw out Gwen's former husband and stop him forever.
After the shocking ending of the first book in the series, I couldn't wait to read this one. Each chapter is told from the point-of-view of either Gwen, Sam, Lanny or Connor. We saw how hard it was for Gwen to leave her children behind while she hunts for Melvin. It was equally hard for Lanny and Connor who felt abandoned by both parents.
This story was intense. I wanted to smack Connor for his stupidity. I felt awful for Gwen when no one believed her. The end of the book was very satisfying. I can't figure out where the storyline will go now, but I'll be reading the next book. My rating: 5 Stars.
