With the odds against them I didn't think the folks from Midway would survive the final battle, but there are surprises within surprises. The author wrote this book---apparently the end of this series within the overall "Black Jack" series---in 2016. I can only hope that later he might revisit it. But if he doesn't then it's a fitting end to it as many lose strings are tied up in the final pages.
