It was okay. Not as focused as her best and somewhat meandering. It's definitely got overtones of Beauty and the Beast. McKinley's writing is still lovely, but the world is not as well imagined as I like. The bees were wonderful, the idea of the earthlines, while not new, was done nicely, but Mirasol and whats-his-name were rather blank. As a reader, I don't have much idea what brought them together - she liked the way the earth behaved around him, I guess? And I get that the Master had to be human so that that the romance could happen, but the way it came about seemed like "then a miracle occurred". So...it was okay. Not likely to read it again.
