Lovely. Hardly a "horror novel" except in that creeping, slow way that comes from a brilliant report on human characters. There's at least two scenes in the book that left lasting impact for me. There's horror here. But it's as if Tessier sat down with Anne Tyler or Alice Munro to produce characters and dialogue that are real, observations that are astute.
