After the death of her mother, a young woman in a small Appalachian mountain town discovers that an essential part of herself was not true. How she attempts to reconcile this, aided and abetted by a selection of quirky friends and neighbors, forms the heart of this novel. Trigiani loses some points for her odd pacing -- the story moves in fits and starts toward the goals established by the main character, with multiple side trips around and through side stories.
