THE BUTTERFLY AND THE VIOLIN was one of our bookclub selections by a member who is friends with the author, Kristy Cambron. It takes place during the Holocaust and present time. The subject is about the power of the arts to sustain the human spirit during this horrific part of history and involves music and paintings. There is mystery surrounding a painting in modern times that was created during the Holocaust. It is a fast read and held my interest from first to last page. I also read THE BOOK THEIF that was set during this historical time period. I liked it too. However, THE BUTTERFLY AND THE VIOLIN was less oppressive to me. Upon finishing THE BUTTERFLY AND THE VIOLIN, I searched the Internet for images of Art of the Holocaust which was educational and haunting. I recommend this book to people who enjoy historical fiction, mystery and a little romance.
