Book two in the series takes up just after the previous book left off. Not much progress has been made in Merit's vampire skills development, her love life, or her social life.

The most significant moment in the book is the fight Merit has with best friend Mallory. Mallory's comments seemed so self-serving and biased, I thought by the end of the book it would be revealed she had been under the influence of some kind of glamour. I couldn't understand why Merit didn't rail on her for trying to control her life, and I really didn't see why the fight left Merit feeling guilty somehow of choosing Ethan over her friend. So if Merit doesn't run her life the way Mallory wants then Merit is choosing Ethan over her? And Merit seems to end the book feeling like thats exactly what she has done. just felt wrong to this reader.

A good installment but not super memorable.
