I agree with Karissa E, to a point. To me, it seems more as if Estep was taking a step back from the whole "improvement" aspect of the series and giving us a simple, straightforward view into Gin's life. It kind of seemed like the calm before the storm, as if this time is the last time Gin is going to have a "regular" situation pop up until the end of the series. It was like Estep was giving us some kind of rest period before all hell breaks loose.
