Book Review of Beneath the Earth: The Facts and the Fables (Landscapes of Legend)

Beneath the Earth: The Facts and the Fables (Landscapes of Legend)
reviewed on

Finn Bevan's wonderfully written and illustrated series, Landscapes of Legend, combines facts along with favorite world myths, fables, and legends. In Beneath the Earth, late elementary to early middle school readers learn how volcanoes are formed and that the islands of Hawaii are really the tops of underwater volcanoes. Students then read the legend of how Pele, the Hawaiian goddess, found her home on Kilauea. Other myths included concern Prosperpina, Zeus, and the great Irish hero, Finn MacCool.
