When a brutal assault nearly took her life, Assistant District Attorney Olivia Kincaid retreated to her father's Colorado ranch hoping to finally feel safe. But she doesn't feel safe when she finds out that her father has created a work-release program for convicted felons on his ranch. Six years ago, Hank Elliott was imprisoned for a crime he says he didn't commit. Olivia has heard that story from countless criminals. Still, something about him makes her want to believe him. But when a woman is murdered and Hank is the main suspect, not even Olivia is sure he is innocent.

This was an interesting read with well-drawn characters. At the beginning of the story, Hank is a convict who knows he has to make this work-release program work for him or go back to prison. He doesn't trust his fellow convicts or the men working on the ranch. Olivia is having a hard time coping with the attack, not even wanting to leave her father's house. But as the story continues, we see her gaining confidence and learning to trust men again. This is another winner from Maureen McKade. My rating: 4.5 Stars.
