There is much to like about this story, the relatable characters, the gorgeous setting, Yellowstone's rich history (never having been, I found out what all the fuss is about), the mostly hero viewpoint. Yet despite all this, it just fell short in the romance department. Too bland, too slow, a whole lot of yearning, but true to the period, I guess. With all the factual details plus pages of authors notes, I'd say this was more historical fiction than historical romance. 3 stars.
