If you thought the first book of this threesome was great (PIECES OF SKY), hold onto your spurs because this one is just as good -- or better. For those readers concerned with the level of violence in the first book, this one is significantly less wild. However, theres high drama marching across its pages.

Molly, younger sister to Nellie, has spirited away Nellies 2 children because her sister begged her to do so. She implies that all is not right with her second husband and she fears for their safety.

Mollie and the children are on a train in the New Mexico Territory. Suddenly, theres an accident. Before long, they learn that the man who kept looking at them was one of the seriously injured. Molly hears that the train company is paying $300 for each of the dead. She is told repeatedly that the man, Hank Wilkins, will die soon.

Molly is about out of money and she knows that her dangerous brother-in-law is having someone follow them. Molly takes a chance and marries the gravely ill man.

Molly is a trained professional healer; her famous father took her with him on hospital and home visits, plus they both volunteered at Andersonville Prison.

The doctor in El Paso (where the train arrived to care for the seriously injured), is one of the emotionally walking-wounded from the Civil War. He has given up and swears all the injured will die, no matter what he does. He wants to amputate Hanks arm; Molly objects and asks him to set the arm instead. The doctor abandons his position and Molly is left with Hank.

Hanks brother, Brady, arrives and threatens Molly. She enlists him to help her with setting Hanks arm. Brady insists that Molly accompany the family back to their ranch and tend to Hank. Also, his a wife, Jessica, is pregnant. She has had trouble with each of her pregnancies and Brady realizes that having Molly at the ranch might save both his brother and his wife.

Hank doesnt die but wakes with few memories of his past. Brady convinces Molly not to tell of the dicey nature of the wedding to Hank. As Hank starts to remember, he is troubled that he does not have any memory of marrying or having 2 step-children. When Hank finds out that there are no memories of Molly because they were not married while he was cognizant, all hell breaks loose.

This is another book I couldnt put down and it is an emotionally satisfying tale. Enjoy!
