Despite no likeable characters this book is an amazing read. When this book was first published reviewers wanted to say that Nemirovsky was anti-semetic, they would go on to say this about some of her other works. It doesn't matter that David Golder is jewish and not well liked or portrayed positively by the author, what is important and probably the heart of the story is that he is a cut-throat business man and out to make every dollar he can, he is ruthless and while he is not liked much by his counterparts he likes and thinks even less of them.
Well worth the read.
