Nora Kane is a mail-order bride with a terrible past. She's on her way to meet her proposed husband. The problem is that she is accompanying a marshal with a criminal in the stagecoach when it overturns. The marshal is instantly killed and not too long after that, Nora finds out the outlaw is her intended husband. So much for having a good day.

Jack Bowdre wants a second chance at life. He, and most of the men at Hope's Crossing (formerly an outlaw's hideout, now an up-and-coming town), are trying to straighten out their lives. Unfortunately, some of the men have such large bounties that every bounty hunter and sheriff is out looking for them.

Most of the book is Jack and Nora trying to reach Hope's Crossing alive; no mean feat. I thought the story was a bit long. The author has a habit of finding kids along the way for the main characters to show their kindness by essentially adopting them (at least in this series). I didn't know there were so many stray kids around in the West. I've been reading these out of order and the next one is much better than this one.
