The Edinburgh Dead

Early 1800's in Edinburgh and the city is just coming along with some "modern" ideas and conveniences such as gas lights. Something else is taking place in Edinburgh as well and that is occurring in the operating theaters of the medical schools: dissecting and experimenting with cadavers. Where are the cadavers coming from? When Sgt. Quire of the Edinburgh Police discovers a man who was killed in an unnatural manner, he is suspicious that something far more sinister is going on in his city. Unfortunately, during his investigation he runs into a stumbling block in the form of his supervisor but Quire will try to resist the constraints being placed on him since he is a firm believer in finding out the truth of the matter.

This book is part mystery thriller and part horror thriller. There is a supernatural element at play here which is not my usual genre of choice but I found myself turning the pages rapidly to find out more. I thoroughly enjoyed the development of the characters as well as the descriptions of Edinburgh at this time. I hope that this author continues with these characters in a series. I'm giving this book 4 stars.
