This story starts in 1919, when the main character Kate and her husband, Horst, are thought to be spies by Russian soldiers and forced to flee their field hospital on the eastern front. For 15 years, English Kate lives her life in Hamburg. In the second half, set in London during the Nazis'reign, another main character, Claus spends his days making propaganda films and his nights as a spy, worn down by the secret life. Claus and Kate, fall in love and the story continues. It is an action-packed with questions concerning loyalty to self, country and humankind.

If you're a fan of historical fiction, you'll enjoy this book.
