Lord Ian MacKenzie is a handsome lord who marches to the beat of his own drummer. Mrs. Beth Ackerly, a beautiful widow, catches his eye and he is smitten. However, this is a really different take on the usual romance novel set in the 19th century. For one thing, Lord MacKenzie clearly has Asperger's Syndrome. Suffice it to say I'm familiar with it since I have a very close relative who has that diagnosis. The hero's quirks were so familiar to me (lack of eye contact, social awkwardness, incredible memory, direct almost blunt manner of speaking). The author did a good job capturing the interpersonal difficulties that someone with Asperger's has. That she was able to weave that into a compelling story was even that much more interesting to me.
It's fascinating to read a story about a highly desirable man with eccentricities. I find imperfect characters the most interesting characters. Loved this story and I highly recommend it. It's a good mix of mystery and romance. Sometimes the romance is too cheesy or the mystery isn't that thrilling, but this book is a good mix of both. It's a keeper.
