The End of East by Jen Sookfong Lee is an excellent book which prose examines the lives of a family through the generations as they try to hold to their Chinese heritage yet fit into the expectations of their new home in Canada. Each character is fully-fleshed and sympathetic. The cast are at once familiar and foreign. Even though I am not Chinese, as Ms. Lee took me through the generations, I found characters that were familiar to my life and my personal experience. This made the book not only an excellent read but a relatable read. I would recommend that when you pick up this read, you have a couple hours to spend finishing it, as you will not want to put it down.
