This was a little different than some of the others in the series because it had a human woman in it, rather than a Carpathian, and it had Lucian in it who is a very ancient Carpathian male with strong gifts. They are both interesting characters. The one thing that did disappoint me a little is it started detailing an interesting plot line regarding the "deadly menace that dogged her (Jaxon's) every footstep", then it kind of let it drop and had a quickie ending involving it at the very end. That disappointed me. I like these books, even though I don't read "romance" as a rule, because of the Carpathian theme in it. Some have more detailed stories involving the Carpathian "gifts" and a mysterious story line, while others have mostly "love scenes" throughout, which don't interest me as much.

Basically, if you like nothing but romance then certain ones of the 'Dark' series will appeal to you, while if you like a deeper story line then there are others that contain more of that with less romance. Whichever you prefer, these books are good either way. Even though I don't read "romance" I keep reading more of the books in this series! There is just something about all of Feehan's books that catch your interest right away and then keep you wanting to come back, over and over. They are easy to read and definitely NOT boring. I don't think I could find a slow spot if I tried. Even if they are a bit repititious, it's still a sign of a good writer when people keep coming back for more, and more, and more, and.......
