I enjoyed this book very much. The book description paperback has given is very good. It would help the reader to have a little knowledge of the situation in the Middle East after WWI in which the Middle East and Africa were carved up by the winning powers of the war. It would really help if the reader knew something about Winston Churchill and Lawrence of Arabia's role in all of this. Israel, even then. was a flashpoint for violence. Our heroine goes to visit Egypt and meets all of the international "movers and shakers" who are re-drawing the boundaries of the Middle East in order to govern the oil producing nations.
