According to my records, I read this book in 2011. When re-reading it this week (in anticipation of the upcoming season of Reacher on PrimeTV), the plot was all new to me! I had absolutely no recollection of anything in the story. I don't know if that is because of my age or because of the stress I was under during the original reading (I was the sole caregiver to my late bride). Be that as it may, Reacher sees a man that he thought was dead and becomes a semi-voluntary undercover agent for the FBI. His goal is two fold: for the FBI - find their undercover agent and for himself - to discover the whereabouts of the person he saw. As always, Lee Child's narrative is riveting. Reacher performs superhumanly to complete his dual mission. At the completion, he once again goes off on his itinerate way.
Something that stood out to me during this reading. I had assumed that Reacher was medically discharged from the Army. In this book, it's revealed that he left the Army due to a reduction in force (RIF). RIFd officers do not receive a pension! So why is he receiving a monthly stipend from the government? Perhaps that is explained in another story and I don't recall the reason. Conundrums!
In any case readable and recommended!
