An excellent read from beginning to end! I never wanted to read a book about someone who joined the circus--but this is so much more than that. Ms. Gruen does a beautiful job of bringing each character to life. I especially liked the way she developed the main character and lets the reader join him in his youth as well as in his 90's. She made him so real I could imagine myself at the ripe old age of 93 as well as the helplessness one must feel as age steals away one's youth. A joy to read--and for once an ending that is beautiful and magical at the same time.
