When I was a kid, I loved getting up early on Saturday and Sunday mornings before the rest of my family to watch old movies on TV. These were movies form the 1930s-40s. Even today I still remember some of them occasionally. So I was really looking forward to reading this book. But what a disappointment!

The author really didn't seem to be making any point in his discussions of various genres of movies and just jumped around a lot. I felt the text was disjointed. Maybe this isn't a book for the general public or lovers of old movies, but for some esoteric group of sociologists or psychologists who see more in movies than just good entertainment.

The only saving points of the book were his references to numerous movies I fondly remember and some tidbits of trivia about movie stars and producers. But these were few and far between.
