PLOT: Retired judge Raymond Everett consults Scotland Yard Inspector Beale when he receives a threatening letter from a man he once erroneously sent to prison. Soon after, the judge is murdered and besides the former convict suspects include his immediate family (some of whom are anxious for their inheritance) and a few family friends.

Review: Not technically a locked room murder, it has elements of the golden age mystery, including a map of the crime scene, charts and grids of suspects' movements. The dialogue between Beale and his team sparkles, and although there is one coincidence that is hard to swallow, the book is a fair and fun read.
