I'm sorry to say that I found DOLORES to be a very disappointing and average read.
You would think reading about a Jackie Kennedy type of character would be interesting, but Dolores Ryan was much too shallow to warrant having an entire book written about her! As a side character in a novel of greater depth, sure, but this was just 175 pages of eye-rolling vanity.
I think the theme of great unhappiness being the price of great wealth was grossly underserved by a well-written but superficial treatment.
I give DOLORES a C and highly recommend reading VALLEY OF THE DOLLS instead.
