This was the last book in the series I had, and I was anticipating not getting any more. I've grown tired of Crispin feeling sorry for himself---almost every few pages it seems--- and there was too much mysticism with the relics.

This book took a different path. After the first few chapters Crispin still felt sorry for himself, but not to the length of previous books. And the mysticism wasn't pervasive. Plus, the last couple of chapters were so engrossing, I lost track of everything going on around me until I finished the book. This is the sign of a good read.

So, I'll see what the next book in the series has to offer.
