I loved this entire series. As a retired, but not OLD, librarian I think that this is a great series for reluctant readers. Patterson wrote these books with his son in mind, who did not like to read. He also wanted to write a book that would span all age groups. It worked for me. I love the charactures. Max is my favorite Patterson person yet. I like her more than Alex Cross...and I loved Alex!! The concept of the books is a little strange. Dealing with children who were created in a lab and have a little bird dna thrown in with their human stuff...they hae wings...they fly...the each have other separated powers as well. HOWEVER, if you can look beyond "Bird Kids" and get caught up in the story, you will find yourself in a reading panic as you finish one book and wonder when the next will be coming in!!
