This is an old classic of radio; I believe most of these radio sessions were taped in the early 1950s (one show mentioned that it was 1953). I remember my parents talking about Gildersleeve. They listened to his show often. I enjoyed hearing the old NBC shows; they included the commercials. The ads were only twice per show (one whole minute ad about Kraft, and then a 30-second ad).

The shows are entertaining with a simpler time and place; people laughed at things we might think corny. The commercials were all about Kraft foods and specifically talked about Kraft Miracle-Whip, Velveeta Cheese, and Philadelphia Cream Cheese. The announcer was so sincere when discussing the products.

This is a great way to kick back and let the mind wander. Throckmorton Gildersleeve is Summerfield's water commissioner and president of the Jolly Club. Gildersleeve is an ace at getting himself into situations that call for his friends to help him escape from. There are about 20 different shows on this offering.
