This book was enjoyable, but not great. Harbison writes stories about women and their friendships, usually ones that originate as children and extend to adulthood. In this novel she writes about two friends Nicola and Holly who forge a friendship in summer camp. Holly is overweight while Nicola has low confidence and a large nose. When a pretty blonde camper named Lexi makes their camp life miserable, the two friends conspire to make Lexi pay for her foul attitude. Fast forward twenty years and Holly is still struggling with her weight and a demanding, ungrateful boyfriend. Nicola is a semi-famous actress still struggling with issues of her physical appearance. When Holly runs into Lexi by accident (having not seen her since summer camp) she discovers that Lexi is now broke and somewhat broken by her circumstances. Although I liked this book I felt that some of the aspects were rushed, such as the romance aspects and the fleshing out of certain characters. I feel that Harbison has a formula in her plots that she sticks too rather than being more spontaneous. Overall, it was a good read, though not great.
