Probably one of the best books I've read in 2008!
Gruen's writing style makes the depression era circus come to startling life. I was hooked from the first page and felt instantly sympathetic with the main character Jacob. I loved all the crazy and at times shocking details of life on the circus train. Well written, great chracters and great plot. Of course I can't write this review without mentioning the fascinating and realistic detail given to all of the animal "characters" as well especially Rosie the bull elephant. Don't want to give anything away but the ending was fantastic. I dount you will be dissapointed if you give this book a chance.
