The Underground Railroad helped as many as 100,000 escape bondage from slavery. Harriet Tubman is probably the most famous of the midnight travelers who helped others escape slavery.

Fortunately, Harriet lived long enough to receive accolades for her many years of service to America. She died at 91-years-of-age, in a home for African Americans that she helped create.
