The idea of falling into one of my favorite books and meeting the characters is very appealing, so I thought I would really enjoy this book. And I did, sort of.
The problem is that I can not, no matter how hard I try, imagine Austen's characters acting like this. Mr. Darcy having a tryst in a garden folly and not caring if others saw him with his pants around his ankles?! Lizzie carrying a flask and staying more than a bit pickled? Please!!
On the other hand, when I could convince myself that this was set in an unknown Regency romance with characters who just happened to have familiar names, I had a lot of fun with the story. Ms Cready tells a good story and has a wonderful sense of humor.
I don't think I have ever written such a conflicted review, but I enjoyed this book and found it utterly maddening at the same time.
