Her Last Daycenters around Jessie Cole, a PI raising her missing sister's daughter. Other characters have equally complex histories: Cole, the ex-lover Sacramento cop and Ben, the scarred amnesiac crime reporter, Zee the schizophrenic young woman shunned by her neighbors. As a local serial killer resurfaces, all these characters become involved in one another's lives.

The book is well written and well-paced. You'll want to read it in one sitting, if possible. Good dialogue, a creepy villain and thrilling conclusion that primes you for the next book. Each features a major crime while an overarching story relates to the mysteries in each person's past.
