Trains and Lovers: A Novel, by Alexander McCall Smith, was a surprise for me--and not in a good way. I'm a fan of Smith's other novels so I had a lot of hope for this book, especially from the description on the back of the book. I tried to read it but soon found myself skipping parts that were boring, getting confused about all the different characters that popped up, unable to follow the story as characters had flashbacks during flashbacks, etc. I finally just putting the book aside for good. I hate not to finish a book, especially by a really good author--I hang in there as long as I can, hoping it will redeem itself--but I couldn't do that with Trains and Lovers. There are too many books on my 'To Be Read' list for me to waste time with this one.
