Death by Chocolate Marshallow Pie is the sixth installment in the A Death by Chocolate Mystery series set in Eastport, Maine and featuring Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree, co-owner of the Chocolate Moose. A new chocolate shop, Choco's has opened across the street and the new owner, Brad Fairway is actively spreading nasty rumors about Jake and Ellie's shop in an effort to ruin their business. Determined to find out why the man is intent upon destroying the Moose, Jake ventures across the street only to discover that Brad is someone she knows from her past as a money manager for the mob. Fortunately, Brad doesn't seem to recognize Jake but unfortunately, when Ellie goes back later to try her hand at reasoning with the man she discovers him dead. Police Chief Bob Arnold doesn't believe the ladies are guilty of murder, but the Federal Agents do and Jake and Ellie must work quickly to uncover the real killer.

There are plenty of suspects but they all seem to turn up dead or injured either before the ladies question them or immediately after. While Jake tries to save her best friend, she's also trying to figure out what is going on with her son Sam and his marriage, and also why her father is determined to move out of the house either with or without his wife Bella.

A good addition to the series that can be read as a stand alone. I wonder why the recipe at the back is not for the chocolate marshallow pie that figures prominently through the book but instead for a chocolate marshmallow gingerbread. Luckily, I'm reading this the week before Christmas, so I might give the gingerbread a try.
