This book took much longer to read than I expected because the author was very familiar with the changing concepts of Nietzsche. As I looked around for more information about this philosopher's growth, it took a bit of time to think about Nietzsche's ideas.

Every few years, Time Magazine or some other media outlet declares that "God is dead." I can just imagine how horrified the public (during Nietzsche's time) would have been by this statement because the world was much more religious during his time. However, Nietzsche's thoughts about human life and responsibilities after that statement are thought-provoking and profound.

I wasn't surprised to learn that Nietzsche was isolated throughout most of his life. I doubt he could have been such a deep thinker with the distractions of a family. On the opposite side, Nietzsche probably burned out early because of his intense study and introspection. This was a very worthwhile read. I congratulate the author for being able to explain such complex ideas to laymen in such a clear way. Overall score = 4.5 stars.
