Rachel Troyer is a policewoman, but ever loyal to her Amish aunts. Thinking that her aunts are overdoing it for their age, she insists that they start slowing down and close down their inn. They acquiesce, only to turn around and have a stranger show up at their door penniless.

Joe & Bobby have been on the road a long time. After Joe gets robbed, his car breaks down leaving him stranded. A kind Amish man helps Joe & Bobby connect with Rachel's aunts.

Rachel, meanwhile, is very wary of Joe. Being a policewoman, she can spy a problematic person a mile-a-way. What is Joe's history? How does a man show up on somebody's doorstep with a young boy? Why doesn't he talk more about his past?

After spending time with Joe and going through many things together, Rachel sees that she needs to enjoy life more and not be so wary.

The ending was pretty surprising, but definitely exciting!

This was a great book. I really enjoyed the people in it. Although it was mostly Englischers, there were Amish in it. I also enjoyed how she weaved a mystery and Amish together. That's not as easy to find. Usually, you get either Amish OR mystery . . . not usually both. Refreshing read!!
