Sarah Woodward has traveled from Boston to Kentucky as a mail order bride. When she arrives, the groom informs her he is about to marry someone else! Sarah took the news well and decided to stay because she felt she had something to accomplish in Little Hickman. She soon finds her calling: a marriage in name only to an ornery widowed man in order to help raise his young niece and nephew.
