A compelling read from the beginning to the end (I read it in one night, I couldn't put it down). In addition to the gripping story at the center of the book, this story really highlights what happens when our justice system is allowed to be complacent. You will understand after you read it just how devastating this failure was to the families involved. Jack Barron must be a psychopath with no emotional development or maturity beyond that of a selfish, irresponsible teenager. It is incredibly sad and really horrifying that the failure of the law enforcement community to overcome petty internal differences would allow this man to continue to decimate his family. The parallel between his narcissistic immaturity and the failure of law enforcement to overcome internal bickering and posturing is readily apparent. This should be a required reading for anyone in law enforcement that is reluctant to go out on a limb or take a chance. Jack Barron would almost certainly been stopped before he could inflict so much additional pain and heartache, if someone would have gone out on that limb in the beginning.
