This book was a local book club selection, and I was anticipating watching the movie based on it. The story was interesting because of the unusual setting and the moral quandary that faced the main characters. The plot lagged in places, mostly what I felt were lengthy descriptions of the island and daily life there. Overall, the book was engaging and I found myself wanting to find out how this very complicated situation would be resolved. If you don't like depressing stories, this one is probably not one for you, but if you like stories that look into the costs of our human desires, then this story will not disappoint.
