I hesitated to read this book because I did not like the atrocious family in DANGEROUS WORKS. In the previous book, Richard Hayden, Marquess of Glenaire, was a managing brother. However, he and Georgette are the least appalling of his family's awful people. I hoped he'd learned a few things in the last story. The story starts with Richard, his old, irritating self. However, he meets Lily Thornton, who does not want his controlling ways. She spurns him left and right and then leaves England to escape him.

Although this story started dismally, the adventure began when Lily got to Constantinople. Richard refused to take a no from Lily, although his parents and the Duke- father of Lady Sarah, expected an offer for the young lady immediately.

Richard is redeemed when he takes on Lily Thornton. He suffered greatly because he was so bellicose (to understand a woman's heart).
