Creepy and a little scary for the little ones while still being entertaining and slightly humorous in places for the grown-ups, Coraline is slightly convoluted for younger kids, but the message still comes through clearly: if something's too good to be true, it probably is. It is also good for showing kids that movies aren't always just like the books they are based on (but the movie wasn't terribly far-off).

Gaiman's reading of his own book is enthusiastic and easy to listen to. The occasional musical accompaniment is on the bizarre side, but certainly in keeping with the general tone of the story.
